What
can be said about the Haunting A D ? Extraordinary,
atmospheric, communing with spirits and generally dealing lyrically with the sharp
end of life .. in touch with the strength of feeling about issues close to many
peoples' hearts. |

 |
| Current
Line up: |
| Caroline
Hoare aka 'Witchy' : the driving force behind the band, songwriter, lead vocal,
rhythm guitar and harmonica. The Divine Caroline has a distinctive bluesy vocal
sound. Her approach is one of total immersion into the soul and character in the
song, driven by the ideas behind the lyric, delivering a performance that leaves
you wonderfully moved, swept up as the scenario unfolds. |
| John
Hoare : songwriter, lead guitar, backing vocals, musical arrangements. The
dynamic, long-haired impressario, second half of the writing team. An inventive,
fluid and versatile guitarist, his note-perfect musical interpretations and storming
guitar solos seem to always match the mood perfectly. |
| Scott
Lomas : Bass Guitar: both tallest and next longest suffering band member:
A consumate pro musician delivering 101% on the stonkometer, his driving bass
lines completely under-pinning the band's sound. |
| Tracey
Simmons : acoustic & electric violin, backing vocals. Virtuoso classically
trained fiddle-play plus electronic effects, make Tracey's space-age fibre glass
instrument sound at times like an entire string section. Although not featured
on the track Fade.mp3 (Robin Gillan),
the interplay between John & Tracey onstage is an outstanding feature of the
Haunting ADs live performance. |
Ian
Roberts : Drums, percussion, piano. Ian's energetic prescence ties all the
Haunting AD musicians together. Currently off the road through disabling injury
.. Get Well Soon Ian !! (Our previous drummer exploded
!!) |

 |
| From
their earliest days as Anarchist Punk band 'Lick
That !!', and feeding new rhythms into the London Acoustic Network, The
Haunting AD began a life of its own in the mid nineties, as an outlet for
the songs of Caroline & John Hoare. From the first demo sessions came a 6
track mini album of acousto-electric-gothica including 'Eat Stop' and the ghostly
'Stole his Past'. These 2 songs would later evolve into the full blown debut CD
'ManiFest'. During the making of Manifest a full band with Bass player
Scott Lomas, Terry Cray on Drums and Julie Edgell on Backing Vocals was formed.
Sporadic gigging including the Green Gathering and as overall winners of two North
London Battle of the Bands competitions that year, impressing a lot of people,
and with extra studio time on their hands .. but through the need for life (and
nappy) changing decisions, Terry and July moved on to pastures (and baby) new. |
| Like
the Phoenix, a new, more hard-edged unit arose from the ashes and a new short
6 track C D 'Looking Back at You' was recorded at the legendary Scarlet
Studios. This line up including new powerhouse drummer Jim Gardener, plus exceptionally
talented electric violinist Tracey Simmons, helping fulfil an earlier promise
by really nailing the light and shade, gothic textures, required for music of
a strongly atmospheric nature. Touring followed though sadly Jim the drummer disappeared
in a cloud of smoke, pouff he went .. but was ably replaced by our current beat
keeper Ian Roberts. |
| We
have now completed our 2nd full 15 mind expanding tracks CD called 'Another
Twist'. Ranging from the strutting swagger of 'Vain display' and 'Night Porter'
to the rap & rifferama of 'Can I have some more'/'Make your mind up'. The
new album also more reflective, taking a trip to bed-sit land in 'A single life',
or the poignant environmental wake up call 'Oh Please !'. The Haunting AD are
never afraid to tackle tricky, or topical subjects. One older song revisited 'Sooner
or later' deals with problems of greed and debt, whereas 'Taste you' gives helpful
tips on how to deal with a blood sucking vampire (.. and you never quite know
when that might come in handy!) |
Independent
Films have provided the Haunting AD with an alternative outlet for their richly
atmospheric soundscape, including the independent short film production 'Vermilion
Vixens' and 'An Australian Vampire in London' (Shock Horror Probe
films). >>> | |
| Future
projects include a tour of theatre/arts centre venues, a modern dance choreographed
piece and an installation, more details coming soon. |
